KONE has set ambitious science-based targets for significant reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and pledged to have carbon neutral operations by 2030.
We use healthy materials, help to reduce on-site energy consumption and the carbon footprint of buildings. We publish the environmental impact of KONE products and contribute to developing global energy management standards.
We pledge to have carbon neutral operations by 2030 and while actively reducing our emissions and working with our externally verified science-based targets, we will offset carbon emissions from KONE Care™ DX maintenance. Together with our partner South Pole, which is an industry leader in climate action, we have selected to support recognized and certified projects to offset our carbon emissions. The diverse range of selected projects include forestry, renewables, waste management and energy access projects.
KONE Care™ DX maintenance carbon emissions will be calculated and compensated quarterly based on amount of maintenance visits, average fuel consumption, estimated embedded carbon emissions of the used spare parts and also including maintenance linked carbon emissions from KONE facilities, IT servers and IT solution.
Our vehicle fleet of 18,000 cars accounts for ca. 75 % of our emissions from our own operations. The key to reaching carbon neutrality is our program for transitioning to a low emission vehicle fleet.
Additionally, we are reducing our electricity consumption in our ca. 1000 facilities. Our target is to increase the share of green electricity globally to 100% by 2030.
At KONE, our contribution to a circular economy starts with our focus on reducing the materials, energy and other resources used in our solutions and operations. By providing customers with reliable and energy-efficient equipment that has a lifetime of over 25 years, KONE has an important role in keeping resources in valuable use for as long as possible.
